The Project:

Design development of the 2001 Mild Seven F1 Speed Show.

Design Notes:

Having just won the pitch to herald the arrival of the Mild Seven/Benetton Renault F1 car in Manila for Japan Tobacco,  we set about developing identity studies.

Our recommended identity, along with its applications on several event elements.

Bleachers for the audience.

Concept board, with samples of event attractions.

Stage, with catwalk for the F1 car.

Car reveal/exhibit module.

Client opted for the second identity study, officially naming the event the “Speed Show.”

Costume studies for the marshals.

The Project:

Logo studies for i.tower developed in 2001.

Design Notes:

i.tower was set up to provide intelligent cabling to building developers, addressing the growing need for inter- and intra-connectivity for businesses well before the wonders of wi-fi.

Logo studies, and their progression due to client input. The”Building Connectivity” line was part of our pitch.

The Project:

Event materials for a global Town Hall meeting in 2001.

Design Notes:

PR giant Hill & Knowlton (www.hillandknowlton.com) commissioned us to stage a Town Hall meeting for a fuel company whose global head was coming to visit. Emphasis was on logistics and security, rather than on treatment.

Stage design for Globe (Handyphone)’s Digital Face-Off, the culminating activity of a tournament for Globe’s featured mobile games.

Design Notes:

For activation summer 2001 at the Glorietta Activity Center Makati. Highlight was a head-to-head competition for X-Men: The Mobile Game.

The Project:

Event designs for a Globe (Handyphone) thank-you party to celebrate its 3 million subscriber milestone.

Design Notes:

Three million thank-you’s. “3NX!”, we said in textspeak. Featuring poster girl Donita Rose (then still an MTV VJ based in Singapore) and other big names, it was to be a party beyond all parties, transforming the Dolphin Park at the Glorietta into the summer of 2001’s hottest event venue.

Among the elements we pitched were spelling out “3NX” from lit windows at the nearby Hotel Intercontinental (the hotel wouldn’t allow it,) as well as the following plates.

What Happened:

We lost the pitch. Client said that they couldn’t visualize what the event was going to look like. Okay.

The Project:

Stage designs for the announcement of the Globelines-Islaphone merger in Cebu in 2001.

Design Notes:

Globelines, Globe Telecom’s landline affiliate, had just acquired Islaphone, a local fixed network provider servicing Cebu and its surrounding provinces.

Event campaign materials for Globe GENTXT’s 1st year anniversary.

Design Notes:

Globe (Handyphone)’s youth networking club GENTXT was celebrating its first year in the summer of 2001, and they wanted a nationwide party series to commemorate the occasion. More than just a series of concerts and alcohol-fueled frenzy, they wanted to add a deeper meaning to the planned get-togethers, dubbing it “the largest gathering of GENTXTers ever.”

Working on a “Stand Up and Be Counted” concept, we envisioned a series of cause-oriented themes and assigned them to various cities around the country.

Level:Up – on air pollution for Baguio
Re:Cycle – on er, recycling for Manila
H20:01 – for water conservation in Cebu
Peace:Out – for um, peace in Davao

The Project:

Print ad studies for Cartimar shopping center developed in 2001.

Design Notes:

Cartimar shopping center in Pasay City began its life as an “International Shopping Center” in the ’70s (it was I think), boasting the best choices of imported food, clothing and general merchandise – at bargain prices. With the advent of the air-conditioned, multi-storey mall and the flood of imports from Doritos to Dockers everywhere, it had been relegated to cheap bazaar status – settling into a niche as a shoe, bicycle and pet shop haven.

The client called for low-budget print ads that specifically targeted its new niche market, as well as reminded the reading public of its address – far beyond the new centers of commercial activity.

At the pitch, the client’s take on “low budget” was made clear: not enough money for color. Understood.

Design Notes:

A low-budget tabletop purchase promo was the directive. Spin and Win, it was called. Buy a Cali, spin the wheel, and (maybe) win a prize.
